JISC national e-book observatory project

JISC Inform has published an article about the 2 year national e-book observatory project which started in January detailing the purpose behind the project. The article by Rachel Pitman is available on the JISC Inform website and further information on the project is available at http://www.jiscebooksproject.org/.

I think the JISC national e-books observatory project is a really interesting one to watch. It's starting small - 34 key texts available in their entirety online, for UK Higher Education. If the pilot is successful though, and the model proven, I would hope that it could extend its range and open up to UK Further Education as well. On the project website, you can get information about a planned 'e-Books UK Roadshow'. We (at the Regional Support Centre) have been talking to the project team about getting an event in Scotland. To be confirmed, this is likely to be in Edinburgh on 12th Feb next year. So a provisional date for your diary! (Sarah Price, RSC Manager, Scotland North & East)

Sarah,
Thanks for the information. Anything that helps to guide people through the ebook maze is helpful. I think there's a need for a rapid development of generic standards, access and pricing.
